Great Falls After Show...Photo: Daniel Wills
Hello Friends,
Awesome night in Great Falls! Fans stood the entire night as we gave
our Great Falls, Montana fans 2 + hours of our favorite songs. For
us, even after three days off we feel as if we need to jump back in
with both feet to make it as current a show as possible. STYX these
days is an ongoing self-fulfilling prophecy of performing as we keep
the forward momentum going. There seems to be no limit to how far we
can push when we put our shoulder to it.
We spent the afternoon reshaping our 14 minute medley and will record
it sometime later this week. We now have a permanent live recording
rig traveling with us which will make archiving certain unique performances
either for ourselves or to share with our fans.
We still have our eye on recording a CD of new material for release
this time next year so as usual we have a pleasantly full plate.
Tonight we will be taking our crew to dinner to at last show our admiration
and appreciation for pulling of the show in Palmer, Alaska. There are
some things you simply cannot do without a crew who laughs at what
others would call impossible. To quote one of their many affirmations, "Impossible
just takes a little longer..." These folks are the textbook on
getting a show up and down, to and from here and there, never looking
back, only forward and smiling all the way. They are a constant inspiration.
I spoke to my mother a few minutes ago in Montgomery, Alabama and
she said she was awakened at 3 AM by her car alarm going off from being
buffeted by the winds of Ivan approaching. There has been a lot of
rain, her power has been out for several hours and the storm center
is not there yet. Hopefully Montgomery will be spared too much damage.
Area churches have had their doors open for days to welcome those who
have been forced to evacuate communities further south. Southern Hospitality,
once again, reigns supreme. Our hearts go out to all those who have
been touched by this season's relentless storms.
These are dramatic times.
