Hello Salt Lake City!
USANA AMPHITHEATRE
WEST VALLEY CITY, UT
MAY
28, 2004
Hello Friends,
We arrived here in SLC yesterday morning after what our drivers called
a very windy drive from Denver. The irony for me is that the bumpier
the ride the sounder I seem to sleep, so the irony is that the worse
it is for our brave drivers, the better rested I am.
Chuck Panozzo was sitting up front when I arose, about fifty miles
from our destination. He'd been enjoying the breathtaking views as
we went from sunrise to sunshine to clouds, to rain as we pulled into
the hotel. No matter how many times we make these drives across the
USA, we have never become jaded when it comes to taking in the natural
beauty. Whether it's the beauty of the green acres of the Midwest,
the vast big skies of Wyoming, the lush evergreens of the South, the
mountains and valleys of the West, the old world quaintness of New
England, the tropical paradises of Florida, and all the places in between,
it cannot be stored in our memory banks and always takes us by surprise.
Such is Salt Lake City. Jeanne and I took a walk over to a shopping
center on the edge of town yesterday and were impressed by the beautiful
people everywhere. It looked like a scene from a Hollywood movie set.
Is it the mountain air? The history? What is it? At any rate, we look
forward to seeing them at the show tonight.
I've been on the phone all morning and afternoon to radio stations
who are promoting and spreading the word about STYX performing on June
4 in Dallas at the Eric Clapton Crossroads Guitar Festival. In case
you haven't heard, what started out as just JY and me going down to
participate during our break from the tour we're on now, to a full
blown, everybody-in-the-band, pack-up-the-semi and do it all the way
event for us. We'll be there at 11:00 AM to open up the Saturday festivities
on the Esplanade, performing for about an hour. Some STYX songs and
a bunch of covers, from Jimi Hendrix to Slim Harpo. As Neil Diamond
says, "Pack up the baby and grab the old lady..." and don't
miss this once in a lifetime weekend, all for the worthy cause of funding
Sir Clapton's (he's already royalty in our world) Crossroads Recovery
Center. If you ever wondered what miracles come from rehabilitation,
just look at the works of Eric Clapton and picture what might have
become of him and us had he continued down the road to ruin that has
robbed us of so many other great human beings. Get on board, don't
wait to hear about what you missed. Instead, you be the one telling
others what THEY missed!
See you soon...
