VH1 Music First:
What Do STYX,
The Rolling Stones And Willie Dixon Have In Common?
May 20, 2004
VH1 MUSIC FIRST THURSDAY, MAY 20TH, 2004
MUSIC NEWS
WHAT DO STYX, THE STONES AND WILLIE DIXON HAVE IN COMMON?
Chicago rock band Styx recently re-recorded their song "Blue
Collar Man" at their hometown's Chess Studios. Like Abbey Road,
Chess has a legendary status in the world of classic rock. The Rolling
Stones once recorded there, and it's now home to Blues great Willie
Dixon's Blues Heaven Foundation - and Styx singer James Young told
us the Stones-Dixon connection doesn't end there... (Actuality #5) "Willie
Dixon's widow Marie told me this story about, she was having a terrible
day, and Willie'd just had his leg amputated, and her son had been
stabbed seriously, and was in the hospital, and all of a sudden the
Rolling Stones roll up in five limousines. With what she described
as hoochie-coochie girls. She told the Rolling Stones they couldn't
come into her house that day! I mean, not many people can tell a story
like that." No word yet on where Styx's new recording of "Blue
Collar Man" will end up, but when it does, the proceeds will go
to Dixon's Blues Heaven. The charity strives to ensure that blues greats
don't get cheated out of the royalties they deserve.
