9/30/00 - Another day in STYX...

Hello my friends,

It is the end of the day here at our house in LA. JY, Lawrence and Gary Loizzo left about an hour ago after spending the evening putting together a track for a television show we will be playing the night after we arrive in Germany in a couple of weeks. We also had a chance to view the final edit of the live DVD Lawrence spent the previous three days finishing up. He did a fantastic job, and we can't wait for you to see it this Christmas.

We caught the early flight back to Los Angeles this morning and had a funny thing happen just as we were about to pull away from the gate. A concerned flight attendant came over the airplane public address system and asked if Glen Burtnik was on board and if so would he identify himself. We realized then that none of us had seen him since we checked in.

A few minutes later she made the same announcement. "Glen Burtnik, please let us know if you are on board..." We began to hypothesize perhaps Glen had accidentally boarded the flight to Los Cabos, Mexico by mistake. Or San Francisco. These things happen. Then we figured the next thing to happen would be the baggage handlers going through the luggage down below to remove Glen's bags since he wasn't on board. Lawrence tried Glen's cell phone, but we all knew he never has it turned on. JY suggested to our tour manager that he stay behind and figure out where Glen had ended up. Just as he was saying good-bye and walking off the plane Glen got on. He didn't seem too amused as I announced, "Ladies and Gentlemen, Glen Burtnik!" Everyone erupted in applause. He didn't realize that everyone on board was aware of his missing person status. Where was he? He had sat down just a few feet from the gate and fallen asleep! We were all up late and then had to get up at 6:30 AM to make the 70 minute drive to the airport and Glen skipped the coffee and was catching some ZZZZs. We were just relieved to know he wasn't going to spend his day trying to get back to his Los Angeles hotel!

Last night was our first time performing at the casino in Jackson. Really cool theater with a small stage and people packed to the rafters. We played an extended set, including some acoustic songs as well as the newer additions to the regular set. We always enjoy getting to be that close together. It makes for an extremely tight performance because we can see and hear each other so well. It sounded great.

Some of our familiar female fans surprised us during "Miss America." I happened to look out at the front row to see a row of girls in tiaras and sashes. The sashes read "Miss Appropriate, Miss Demeanor, etc." We were dying. To top it off, Lawrence was wearing one that read "Miss Queen of Spades!" It was that kind of night and we absolutely loved it. If you ever get a chance to come to a casino show, don't pass it up. It is very different from the amphitheater, arena, fair or festival vibe. Much more intimate and up close.

All right then. I am getting a little bleary now. Enough for one day.

Love to you all...
