8/25/00 - Morning in Minnesota...

Hello Friends,

I am sitting here in St. Paul, still bed-headed after just coming off the overnight bus ride from Merrillville, Indiana where we played Last night.

Enuff Z'nuff played an amazing set before us. What a great band. Killer tunes--the kings of cool.

It was the first time in ages that we had the stage for an extended show. In the afternoon as we looked at the set list, we kept adding songs because--well, because we could.

It was fun to play "Suite Madame Blue," "Snowblind," as well as our full acoustic set too. After "High Enough" we brought Gary Loizzo, our sound engineer for the past 21 years, to the stage to sing. In case you didn't know, Gary was the lead singer of The American Breed. We all joined Gary in a blistering version of theire hit song "Bend Me Shape Me" and I have to say, it was a barn burner! When John turned up the audience lights during the second chorus, we could see that EVERYONE was singing to the top of their voices. From the teen-age girls to the gray haired original STYX fans, it was a universal sing along. Glen and I were agreeing it was our favorite moment in a night that was filled with good ones. Thanks Gary!

After being on outdoor stages for the past few months, it was a fun change to be on the indoor variety. We will have plenty of opportunity to be indoors when we go into the arenas with REO in November, January and February, but the smaller theaters just have a certain intimate vibe that is hard to blow up into a megadome experience. Apples and oranges I guess. Let's face it, they are all cool!

Tonight we play to 20,000 fans in St. Paul.

Another beautiful day in STYXworld!
